I've been using the app for about 3 weeks now. Bought the paid subscription after the 1 week trial because I liked it so much. It's like playing guitar hero with a real guitar! I have so much fun with the structured lessons and my muscle memory is quickly improving. I also love the AI feedback telling me what skills I have improved and areas I still need to work on. This is helping me become a better guitar player instead of just memorizing songs from YouTube. Highly recommend if you want to improve your skills.

After years of lessons and tutorials I was still missing something and started the Gibson app and can't say enough about how good it is and how it's helped me progress in my home on my time and sooo many things you can do that keeps you focused and having fun 🤘🏼.

I have installed this app on multiple devices and it is a great way to play guitar. I have been learning guitar for about 4 years and it is a good way to practice and play guitar with Gibson. I would like to see a platform where you can write songs and publish it among artists

Spent a little over a year using a different app and even though I was progressing through the lessons my playing was sloppy and often times I felt I was taking 2 steps forward and then 3 steps back. So a little over a couple weeks ago I gave this a shot and it's exactly what I've needed. I started at the beginner level and am working my way through the power chord section now and I've already noticed and more importantly can hear the improvement. If you're willing to put the work in I honestly think this is the best app out there right now. I really really like the lesson review breakdowns where you can see the percentages of how well you're playing everything. Each day I'll play a new lesson but will also go back to work on the stuff that could use improvement. Highly recommended. Great job Gibson, great job.

The instruction is really high quality. I feel like m getting one on one lessons. You can also learn the styles your interested in outside the basic lessons. The play along system is like guitar hero and before I thought that was crazy but it actually is so much a great way to learn and see yourself progress as you nail down scales and songs.

I've been playing for 40 + years and I thought I'd try this app after avoiding all "Learn to play guitar" tutorials, now I wish I'd done it years ago! I'm starting to understand why some patterns work and others don't. Im also unlocking the fretboard in a way I've never done before. So this 53 year old indie boy can only say "thank you Gibson" and if you are reading this review trust me, give it a shot it doesn't matter how long you have been playing there is always something to learn from this awesome app.

What a great app to get back in a relearn some fundamentals, while also being able to enjoy so classic songs. The tab format is extremely easy to follow and pick up after a few lessons I was hooked. I'm already 5 lessons in and looking forward to staying on top of it!

I took 12 to 15 years off from playing. I was really rusted. Got this app just to give me something to play with and try to get my chops back. Even though it's beginner status I was able to run through it but as it progressed it really helped me get back into it. I refuse to skip through it. It really helped me get my discipline back. Help me get my count back. Although I'm not where are used to be I'm getting close. I really enjoyed using this app. It's a little pricey, but it's been worth it to me.

Im really liking the app so far and its almost been a year for me. I looked and this is the only place ive found to contact about the app. My question is is there a way to create an area for users to store favorite songs and and other favorite guides that separates them from the long list of liked pages, as sometimes its hard to find that one really liked song you just go back to over again. Guitar Hero, but you learn a real guitar

I bought my first ever guitar and for the first two weeks found myself jumping between YouTube videos learning random riffs. Whilst I did learn some things there was no structure and I can understand why the majority of people quit in the first year. I then found the Gibson App and everything changed! The App is effectively Guitar Hero but you actually learn a real guitar along the way. It's structured so you can effectively learn from a complete newcomer to smashing solos like Slash from Guns n Roses. If you're not a newcomer you can skip up to the level you currently are. I paid slightly extra for the 'famous songs' which for me personally I believe having a bigger library is well worth the few quid extra for the year. Overall, this App is brilliant and I would definitely recommend for anyone that either wants to learn guitar from scratch or is more advanced and wants to progress to the next level.

The app is honestly great and the 25$ a month is not a bad price for how much they're willing to teach you, the only thing I'd like to add is a friends list. I'd like to be able to have friendly competitions with my friends and keep up with each others progress even if we aren't in the same league. It could also potentially open the door for mobile play sessions amongst players. Otherwise absolutely love the app and plan to continue using it and referring people to it.

I have tried two other competitor's apps over the years, Fender and True Fire. After putting the guitar down for a year or two, I've been back at it with Gibson for a month. It works for me. Having the instant feedback has sped up my progress and allows me to see and hear when I'm making a mistake. For the price of a few in person lessons, this is an absolute bargain. Highly recommend you use this on an iPad.

I've never played the guitar before, so when I had one bought for me I needed a lot of help! This app is absolutely brilliant and coaches myself from not knowing anything about guitar to being able to play basic tunes and chords. I've had the app for nearly a year and use it almost daily. It's amazing to be able to see your own progression through the lessons. One slight criticism is that I've come to lesson 3 in strumming which requires multiple fat chord changes with also a difficulty strumming pattern. It seems such a large step up from the previous lesson that it has totally blocked my progress. The lessons are normally well paced and challenging, but this particular lesson is so very difficult I'm blocked. Luckily there is so much else to do that it's easy to find something and make progress, so I'm doing the finger picking guides which are fantastic and well paced. All in all a fantastic app and one that I will easily renew my subscription. I do hope that there are updates to the strumming lessons to break it down a little more! Thanks Gibson!

I picked the guitar back up after a 20 year break because my daughter wanted to learn how to play. This app is simply amazing! It got me back to where I was prior to putting it down then before I knew it I was better than I was years ago. The lessons are easy to navigate. The song library is plentiful but if theory or genres are your thing there is plenty to do. I wish this technology was around years ago and I might not have put the guitar down. Not only is it filled with lessons, tips, tricks, etc. it turns your iPad or iPhone into an amp. If you are traveling for work or pleasure, plug into your phone. I look to be a subscriber for years to come! I am looking forward to progressing with the fun tools they provide.

I've had a sentimental guitar for about 10 years and every time I try to pick it up (with or without an instructor) I put it right back down and lament how I wish it would just "come to me." I've been playing with this app for three weeks now and have just gotten through all the chords!!! I'm PLAYING CHORDS!!! The app makes it addicting and fun and easy to learn. If you've been putting off picking up your guitar and you see this review… Pay for the app and start playing!! As a middle-aged person learning guitar for the first time, this app intimidated me for too long. I finally decided to give it a sincere effort and am so glad I did. This is the best app I have used (and I have tried many different apps.) The lessons are well done and the quality of instruction is excellent. I really enjoy connecting my guitar and amp to the app, playing along with songs and lessons, and getting immediate and accurate feedback about my performance.

I've taken private guitar lessons in the past but with the state of the economy, I wanted to find something more economical - that I would actually stick with. I've tried numerous online courses, and apps. This is the first one that has really held my interest. I love how interactive it is, and how much variety it has. I love that it "listens" to you and tells you how you're doing. And believe it or not, I actually like that you have to do well enough on something to advance to the next section. It gives me a goal to reach for, which pushes me beyond "well it's good enough." I'm so happy with this app, and highly recommend it to others.
Started slow but now I can't stop

I started playing a little over a year ago with videos and other apps but progress was slow and haphazard. Then I tried this app and WOW…what a difference. I started with the solo track for the first few months and really started to get the feel for my guitar. It was not a race to finish for me so I did not move onto the next lesson until I was comfortable with the previous lesson. I then started the rhythm track and do a little of both each day. I am approaching 1m xp and can feel my abilities improving at a faster and faster pace. The new updates are fun but I do miss the video record option. Keep up the good work!

I've played basic guitar off and on for the last 30 years. This app has not only helped me rediscover the joy of playing an instrument but has also taken my skills to new heights in a pedagogical and fun way. I even learned picking which is something I've always struggled with. And who doesn't want to play a duet with Mark Knopfler? I really recommend it no matter your skill level. I tried several apps before settling on Gibson. It's much better than the other apps in terms of lesson structure, technique content and song selection. Yes, some lessons are harder but with the slow down speed control and practice you'll be surprised what you can achieve. My timing and technique are much improved because of the live lesson feedback when playing. They also regularly add new lessons and songs. So haven't run out of choice in a year.

I've learned so much from this app. Didn't realize I was learning, was just having fun going through the lessons and learning songs, but my skills have greatly improved. I use the iRig HD X interface on an iPad while I Bluetooth the audio to a Spark 40 amp. Very rarely do I have any issues. If it ever does lag, a quick reboot of the app usually fixes it. I have so much fun on this app, can't recommend it enough. It's pricey, but you get a lot for your money, as long as you use it.

Amazing and encouraging app! I tried another similar competition app, but quickly got bored. Gibson has very different approach, more details in theory, nice structure of lessons. I really always wait when I come back home and be able to launch it. Gaming style makes it fun to practice and don't give up. Of course it's probably not for advanced players, but for novices like me — you probably won't find any other so motivational and fun lessons.

I've tried out a bunch of the different guitar apps and this one is hands down the best. I like that they don't just throw you into using all 6 strings in the first two main courses or starting chords immediately. I think this approach actually gets you used to playing single strings quickly and pick up finger dexterity and speed that you'll need before diving into more complex lessons. Design is great too with the ability to slow the speed and look at the whole tab before playing. I'm excited for the new music theory course too, which will help me better grasp what I'm playing.

Dear Gibson, Thank you so much for the service you provide, your app is absolutely wonderful and is a great jumping off point for aspiring guitarists, I found that my path would progress better with an in person teacher so I am choosing not to continue as money is tight and it's a little too expensive to do both. Your app is an absolutely amazing way to get new people into guitar and to have accessible lessons for people who aren't fortunate enough to have the luxury of paying a professional for lessons. I think it's one of the most wonderful things someone can do, making music accessible to the majority of the public and I find it very noble that you've created an app for that cause. Sometimes when we have very little hope, music is all we have. It's a beautiful thing to share it with everyone. The app is easy to use and easy to navigate and I think it's great for beginner guitarists in particular. I heard about it through a student and I myself am a little too old to say for sure, but I've noticed that the kids I teach that also play love how it feels a little like a video game. They find it more engaging than regular practice. Thank you so much for the services you provide and I hope you continue to teach many future rockstars for years to come

This Gibson learning app is amazing and it is light years ahead of the Justin Guitar lessons app. Yes I paid for both subscriptions to compare them. Lol. I wanted to make sure that I using my time efficiently. In short, I won't be renewing my subscription to Justin no matter how cheap it is. For reference, I'm an adult beginner with no significant prior music experience other than signing karaoke with friends. With just one week's worth of Gibson lessons, I am comfortably using 3 fingers and two strings. More to come for sure :). This app is rewarding and designed in such a way that practice is truly fun. The Ai interface and leaderboard makes it feel like practice isn't work at all. It's enjoyable, you get to anonymously compete with other beginners with earned practice points, and at the same time it challenges you to improve. Sometimes I find myself planning for a 30 minute practice time, then look up to see that 1.5 hrs has gone by. It's rewarding. and I recommend it without reservation.

At first it seems like it was tailored for electric guitars but you just have to choose the right lesson. I love the new stop n go feature. I love playing fast songs but its challenging to keep pace. With the stop n go feature it lets me correct my mistakes and actually learn from my mistakes instead of just playing over and over till i get it right.

If you are looking for a fun interactive guitar learning app, this is excellent. I have used both this and fender play. While the Fender app is good, the lessons often times felt tedious. These lessons are fun and more like playing guitar hero. So far I am enjoying this app a lot.

This app is amazing. Easy to understand and use. In a few short weeks, had some basics down to start playing with confidence. I had zero guitar experience except for a few failed attempts to learn back in college. The apps approach to learning is great and you can go real deep into music theory if you choose to. The team running the app also does a great job adding new music across varying skill levels, keeping things fresh, exciting and challenging.

I used youscian for many years and I can play guitar. Youscian is a great app in its own right, however this app is really stressing the importance of working out bad habits. For example this app is less forgiving and is forcing me get more accurate on my fretboard. I can already tell that my timing and overall control on the fretboard is more accurate already after One day of practice… and this is just running through the beginning tutorial. Very happy.

I am close to 50 yo, female and just learning how to play the electric guitar for the first time. This is the easiest instrumental app that I have ever used! It's actually fun to play all of my favorite songs from the 80s right from the beginning! Being able to play along with my favorite songs, even in the first and second lesson made learning fun and easy. This app really keeps me wanting to come back and continue learning! I never thought it could be this fun! I really don't feel like a beginner at all! In just the first two lessons , I felt like I was actually playing my guitar. I was also worried about how quickly I would learn as I age, but this feels like it is so easy with this app. It has been worth every penny!

I played the drums for 15 years loved it and always wanted to learn the guitar but it was intimidating to me. Never ended up taking formal classes and the money my dad spent on a squire strat went out the window all those years ago. Im 27 now just picked up a guitar have been using youtube and tabs but this is by far the most fun ive had and most progress ive seen playing an instrument since i picked up a set of drumsticks. Its legit like a video game ill recommend it to everyone and im having the time of my life playing even the most basic stuff here. Shoutout Gibson man this is revolutionary stuff!

Feels like playing Guitar Hero, but with a real guitar that picks up everything you play—every string, every fret. I already play guitar, but the app gives me some great tips. I can spend hours practicing now, which never happened before. So happy I found it!

I tried Simply Guitar first and it was not helpful to me. I love that Gibson starts with fingers and positioning and then strumming. Before trying to make chord shapes. It's a little pricey but I think well worth every penny. And I love learning to play along with some of my favorite song

I started a year and a half ago and am already on the advanced courses. This app is incredible. Love the scale workouts and all the new guides, please keep them coming. Using an iRig 2 to wire in to the app, the effects are really nice. Bring back Metallica and Pink Floyd though, please!

This app is awesome and even though there are so many out there and lots of lessons on YouTube that are free. The way the lessons are structured in this app from basic finger picking and chords, learning your favourite songs in basic and advanced versions makes progression so so easy. I'm a beginner and I highly recommend this app. It's not free but so worth the spend. I've had it now for 3 years and will keep using it. It's very professionally done and well put together.

If you're a beginner or want to get better at guitar, you'll benefit from this app a lot! I'd suggest adding the famous songs package. It's getting much better every day with new guides and songs.

Great instructors that do an amazing job of breaking down songs into learnable chunks. The gaming version for the tabs is really useful. I think my timing got better ha ha. The Chicago Blues course on this app is a fav!!
20 years with a guitar, finally learning

I've had a guitar for 20 years and nothing stuck—books, Udemy, YouTube, nothing. I've been using this for two weeks now and am seeing real progress. Started at 80–90% of notes and improving quickly. Went back to beginner lessons and I'm 100%ing songs on the first try. It's spendy, but cheaper than a teacher and it works. Starts you slowly: E string, then B, adding frets, fingers, etc.

I subscribed in July 2025 and was skeptical at first, but it has been amazing. I've tried nearly all online options. This app is different and offers immediate feedback on notes and rhythm. Wonderful videos, lessons broken into sections, huge song selection. It's fun, but you still need to practice—a lot.
